There are always challenges in running a business; but, when it to comes to running a veterinary practice, the challenges come with names and emotions. I wanted to take a moment to explain our rationale for the hours of operation changes instead of just an announcement to the change. There were many aspects to take in to consideration for this decision. It is important to me that you are aware that it was not taken lightly.
Our original intent in providing later hours was to provide appointment times to clients that were more convenient and to lessen the pressure and craziness during the day. We have been providing later hours for nearly a year now and the challenges with these later hours did not actually alleviate the stressors we intended. Our clients (you guys) seem to still need more day time, preferably morning, appointments. It is also very difficult to staff the later hours. We have had to frequently “make do” with fewer staff in the evening and that has been less than ideal. It makes us less efficient and we are not able to see as many clients when we are shorter staffed. After debating the pros and cons of having another doctor available to see appointments in the morning vs seeing fewer clients in the evening, we decided that our clients would be better served by having more morning appointments. We are not going to stop at 5pm, however. We will be staying open until 6pm. That may not seem like much, but it allows for 2 additional appointments per doctor that are available to accommodate your needs. We did not make this decision lightly but took your needs into consideration while balancing the resources of the clinic.
For those who are greatly grieved by this change, do not give up hope. Bear Creek Veterinary Hospital is keeping the dream of a 24hr facility in our sights. However, we will not be making that jump until we feel that we have an appropriately staffed clinic available to more than adequately take care of your four-legged family members.
Construction on the facility will hopefully be finished very soon, if the weather will cooperate, and we can introduce you to our new lobby. I am very excited about this and I know you are as well.
We are not perfect, but we always try to keep the needs and wants of our clients and our community in the forefront of our decisions. Thank you for your patience and kindness in putting up with all of our growing pains and the inconvenience that goes along with expansion and construction.
